Employee Used Old Receipts to Scam Nordstrom Rack: Cops
Police arrested two drivers for speeding more than 35 mph over the limit on Shermer Road.

SPEEDING
A 20-year-old Northbrook man was charged with speeding in excess of 35 mph over the posted limit, no valid driver's license and no insurance after a stop at 1:37 a.m. on Jan. 8 in the 2300 block of Shermer Road. Officers on patrol observed the defendant’s vehicle southbound in the 2300 block Shermer Road in excess of 35 mph over the posted speed limit. After the vehicle was stopped, the officers learned that the defendant did not have a valid driver’s license or insurance.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY
A victim in the 1900 block of Redwood Lane reported that between 6:30 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. on Jan. 9 offenders entered her residence by breaking a rear window. The victim reported that she believes a jewelry box containing costume jewelry was taken along with a bottle of alcohol and some miscellaneous items.

SPEEDING / DUI
A 30-year-old Chicago man was charged with DUI, DUI over .08, speeding 35+ and operation of uninsured motor vehicle after a stop in the 1300 block of Shermer Road at 2:59 a.m. on Jan. 12. Officers observed the defendant’s vehicle commit a traffic violation and stopped it. After speaking to the defendant officers believed he was under the influence and placed him under arrest. The charges were later amended to reckless driving and Judge was sentenced to two years supervision.
THEFT
A 25-year-old Chicago woman was charged with theft for an incident at Nordstrom Rack in the 100 block of Skokie Road on Jan. 3. The defendant surrendered herself at the police station regarding thefts from the store while she was an employee. The theft involved using discarded receipts from customers. The defendant allegedly used the receipts to act as if a return of merchandise had occurred and then placing the dollar amount of the return on a gift card which the defendant allegedly used to purchase merchandise for herself. The defendant was processed and released after posting bond. The thefts occurred between December 9 and 16, 2016 while she was employed at the store and the total dollar loss was $224.95.
