Farmers Market Returns For Season Wednesday

NORTHBROOK, IL — As organizers say, "Market season is here!" and all involved with the Northbrook Farmers Market are hoping to see residents every Wednesday starting June 17 through Oct. 14. The fun runs from 7 a.m.-1 p.m. at Cherry Lane and Meadow Road, downtown Northbrook. The annual market happens rain or shine, except in severe weather.

Northbrook Farmers Market is operated by the Northbrook Farmers Market Association, an all-volunteer, tax-exempt, nonprofit organization incorporated in the State of Illinois.

While attendees expect much of the same fun they've come accustomed to over the years, there will be some significant changes due to the coronavirus pandemic. Vendors will be wearing masks and following proper social distancing guidelines.

As essential businesses, farmers markets serve as a key component in preserving local and regional food production and supply, according to the Northbrook Farmers Market's website. At the same time, organizers are asking people to stay home if sick, leave children at home if they can and no dogs are allowed this season. As in past years, LINK cards can be used and families will receive a match of up to $25 per market day.

Here are some other guidelines the market is asking attendees to follow:

• Wear a face mask that covers both your mouth and nose; keep it on at all times.
• Maintain a 6 ft. distance between yourself and everyone else.
• Sanitize your hands often.
• Shop in one direction; follow the arrows and keep moving.
• Don't hand payments directly to vendors; instead place payments on trays then step back.
• Limit your interactions with others.
• Don't pick up or touch any products until they are bagged for you; point to what you wish to buy.
• Leave kids at home, if possible, and shop by yourself or with only one other person.
• Don't bring dogs to the market; they will distract and slow you down.
• Don't linger or congregate with others.
• Don't be discouraged: we're in this together!
