Fatal Apartment Shooting Investigated As Homicide

NORTHBROOK, IL — A man was found shot dead in his apartment Sunday in unincorporated Northfield Township, authorities said.

Sheriff's police were called to an apartment building in the 3600 block of Salem Walk shortly after 10 p.m. for a report that shots had been fired.

Daniel Middaugh, 22, a resident of the building, had been shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 11 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. Police are investigating his fatal shooting as a homicide, according to the Cook County Sheriff's Office.

The Salem Walk apartments are located in an unincorporated area of Cook County between Northbrook and Glenview. The address of the buildings is in Des Plaines, according to the medical examiner.

Cook County sheriff's police are leading an investigation. As of Monday morning, no one was in custody.
