Fire Photographer Among Civic Award Winners

NORTHBROOK, IL - Lifelong Northbrook resident and fire photographer Tim Olk was one of two recipients honored with a Northbrook Civic Award by the Civic Foundation at a recent meeting.

According to Fire Engineering, Olk shoots for more than 50 Midwest fire departments, including the Chicago and Northbrook fire departments, and photographs funerals of first responders.

“Tim Olk is a selfless, giving individual,” Northbrook Fire Chief Jose Torres said. “Not only is he locally recognized, but he is nationally recognized for his contributions. He’s a big star.”

Bruce Gonzalez, another longtime Northbrook resident and Glenbrook North High School grad, received the other civic award according to the Northbrook Star. Olk was nominated by Tim Smeltzer, Northbrook Fire Department deputy chief.
