1st Female Clergy Member To Be Installed At Northbrook's Congregation Beth Shalom

Rabbi Jacki Honig joined the clergy team last July and will be formally installed on March 14.

NORTHBROOK, IL — Congregation Beth Shalom's Board of Trustees announced the installation of Rabbi Jacki Honig as assistant rabbi, making her the synagogue's first female clergy member. The ceremony is scheduled for March 14 at 3433 Walters Ave.

Honig joined the synagogue's clergy team on July 1, 2025. She is a graduate of the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies, completing her studies in May of last year. Her previous roles include serving as a rabbinic intern at Temple Beth Am in Los Angeles, where she worked with the Youth Learning and Engagement team. She also served as the Social Justice Project Manager at the Rabbinical Assembly.

"Rabbi Honig is deeply committed to nurturing Jewish spiritual connection, strengthening bonds with Israel, and inspiring individuals of all ages to discover joy and purpose in Jewish living," said Sue Lampert, president of Congregation Beth Shalom.

Since her arrival at Congregation Beth Shalom, Honig has contributed to Ruach Shabbat and Simchat Torah hakafot. She is an active member of both the Membership and Ritual Committees. Rabbi Honig was also a featured speaker for the Sisterhood Torah Fund and teaches adult education classes covering topics from Talmud to the Conservative Movement.

Rabbi David Chapman noted that Rabbi Honig brings joy, wisdom, and insight to her rabbinic work, whether teaching adults, offering pastoral care, or engaging with teens and children. He added that as the synagogue's first female clergy member, she has broken new ground while honoring traditions.

"My installation feels like an opportunity to celebrate all that has already taken place since I began last summer and to dream about what the future holds," Honig said.
