Fishing Derby 'Memorable Experience For All Ages' In Northbrook

The annual Northbrook Park District event is planned for Saturday at Lake Shermerville in Wood Oaks Green Park.

NORTHBROOK, IL — An annual spring tradition in Northbrook returns this Saturday with the Northbrook Park District's Kids' Fishing Derby. Children and teens are invited to participate in the event at Lake Shermerville in Wood Oaks Green Park.

Park district officials said there will prizes awarded for the largest fish, smallest fish, and most fish caught. Registration begins at 10 a.m. May 17 and the event runs until noon.

State Sen. Julie Morrison, who loves to fish, will attend the event and kick off the race to catch and win prizes.

"One of my favorite memories growing up is fishing with my family at the nearby river," Morrison said. "I'm grateful for events like these that encourage children and families to disconnect from their screens and reconnect with nature and each other."
