Funeral Set For Northbrook Teen Killed In Chicago
A GoFundMe has been established in memory of Glenbrook North graduate Miles Thompson, 18, who was shot and killed last week in Chicago.
NORTHBROOK, IL — Calling Miles Thompson an "inspiration and role model to everyone," the organizer of a GoFundMe campaign established in memory of the Northbrook teen killed last week in Chicago was hoping to raise $10,000 to help his family with funeral expenses. With nearly $14,000 already raised as of Thursday afternoon, the goal has been passed with services set for Saturday.

Chicago police are continuing to investigate what happened to the 2020 Glenbrook North High School graduate. Thompson was found dead on the morning of July 8 in the Austin neighborhood, west side of Chicago. Police discovered him unresponsive in an alley at around 7:08 a.m. with gunshot wounds to the chest. He was pronounced dead at 7:15 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Thompson, who lived in Northbrook at the time of his death, was visiting family in Chicago. He was set to turn 19 the next day.
"Whether it’s on the football field or off, Miles is a brother to us all, and his presence can not and will not be forgotten," Laziah McDaniel, organizer of the GoFundMe, said. "He is still here with all of us in our hearts."

In addition to funeral costs, McDaniel said the funds raised will help "bring justice to Miles and find the cowards who took him from us.

Services for Thompson are being handled by Donnellan Family Funeral Home, 10045 Skokie Blvd, Skokie. Visitation is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday until the time of a noon memorial service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Cabrini Green Legal Aid.
Glenbrook North announced Thursday a vigil will be held for Thompson at 7 p.m. Saturday at Wood Oaks Park.

Thompson is survived by his mother and step-father, Laurie Streeter Cooper and Michael Cooper; his father, Marc Thompson (Sonya Anderson); two brothers, Andrew and Jonah; one sister, Jaida; grandfather, Lawrence Streeter; uncles, Lyle Nettles and Akin Sapara;and a host of cousins, extended family, friends, teammates, neighbors and classmates, who all loved him dearly, according to his obituary. We thank God for the opportunity to have walked this earth with Miles and experience the love, joy, and inspiration he brought into our lives.
