Gift Card Scammers Snatch Two Generators From Lowes: Police

NORTHBROOK, IL - The following information comes from daily operational bulletins of the Northbrook Police Department between Jan. 27 and Feb. 2.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

Friday 4500 block Lindenwood

Northbrook Police assigned to a burglary detail followed the a car to the area of 4500 block of Lindenwood, Friday, Jan. 27, where they saw a man get out and approach a house. Then, officers saw the man return to the car carrying a cloth bag before the vehicle left carrying three men. While some officers followed the vehicle, several others canvassed the area looking for a recent burglary. Police found a house with a door that had been forced open by brute force. Later, the officers stopped the suspects' vehicle and found items stolen from the residence on Lindenwood, according to reports. The three suspects, all Chicago men, aged 41, 50 and 61, were taken to Northbrook PD where they were processed. Cook County State's Attorney's office approved felony burglary charges for all three men.

100 block Skokie Hwy Saks Off Fifth

An 18-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of shoplifting from the Saks Off Fifth store on the 100 block of Skokie Highway, after a loss prevention agent allegedly observed her exit the store without paying for merchandise. Police said the agent stopped the defendant outside the store and found two sweaters and a jacket valued at just under $200. The woman was issued a local ordinance citation and released.

THEFT

A red Western 7.5 foot Mid-Grade plow with ultra-mounts and lights was reported stolen Wednesday from a driveway sometime between between 9:00 am and 7:00 pm on the 2300 block of Asbury. The victim estimated the value at approximately $3500-$4000.

THEFT

A men’s frame Specialized Mountain Bicycle, with an estimated value of $350, was reported stolen between 8:00 am and 5:30 pm Wednesday from the train station at the 1400 block of Shermer Road. The victim told police he wrapped a lock and chain around the bike but wasn't sure whether he locked it or not.

THEFT

Sometime in the last 2 weeks, someone stole an Artic Section snow plow, with an estimated value of $9000, from a bobcat tractor parked in a lot at the 1-100 block of Skokie Highway.

RETAIL THEFT

Two men bought a nearly $800 generator from the Lowes at the 1000 block of Willow Road on Jan. 28 using a store gift card. Then, according to police reports, the two men returned to the store, picked up another of the same item, put it in their cart and left without paying. They were able to show their receipt from the first generator and leave the store without paying, the store told police after viewing surveillance videos.
