Glenbrook Transgender Student Policy Takes Aim At Discrimination
District 225 officials have created a draft ordinance to ensure students don't face discrimination over their gender identity.

NORTHBROOK, IL — A new policy drafted by Glenbrook High Schools District 225 would recognize transgender students and aims to ensure students don't face discrimination for their gender identity. The seven-page policy will be up for a vote at the Jan. 8 school board meeting.
The district began looking at creating a transgender student policy after Northbrook School District 27 did likewise over the summer, Superintendent Michael Riggle told the Chicago Tribune.
Riggle said administrators realized the district's current policies fail to recognize transgender students, although the district works to promote respect and doesn't tolerate bullying.

The draft states that the policy would ensure that "all individuals who identify their gender differently from their sex assigned at birth do not encounter discrimination based on that identification."
The proposed policy states that transgender students will have access to the bathroom that corresponds to their gender identity. Transgender students may also request access to a private bathroom, according to the draft policy, and locker room access will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
