Group Of Car Thieves Flees Resident: Northbrook Crimes

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and a list of those arrested. All persons named are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

Police were called to the Walgreens on the 1000 block of Waukegan Road on June 22 around 10 a.m. for a report of a person causing a disturbance in the store. A 25-year-old Round Lake woman was cited for criminal damage after allegedly causing close to $117 in damaged merchandise as she searched for a missing credit card. Staff told police she threw the contents of the trash on the floor while trying to find the lost card.

Police were called to the Mariano's on the 700 block of Skokie Highway on June 23 shortly after 2 p.m. for a report that a man had taken razor blades and tooth brightening strips from the shelves, placed them in his shirt and exited the store without paying. Police stopped a 34-year-old Palatine man in the parking lot and arrested him in connection with the theft. Police said the value of the recovered merchandise was $439.

SPEEDING 40 MPH OVER THE LIMIT

A 25-year-old Chicago man was arrested June 24 shortly after 2 a.m. and charged with speeding more than 40 mph over the posted limit after Northbrook police witnessed him driving 95 mph eastbound on Dundee Road, which has a posted 45 mph limit. His vehicle was stopped and he was arrested, processed and released after posting bond.

NO VALID LICENSE, ILLEGAL TRANSPORTATION OF ALCOHOL

After a man stopped officers to ask for direction, police noticed an open container of alcohol and smelled marijuana on him. They searched the vehicle and found several small plastic bags, a small amount of a grassy material and a bag containing a white powder. Police said a 22-year-old Cicero man was placed under arrest for traffic violations and the powdery material found in his vehicle was sent to the lab for testing.

AGGRAVATED DUI AND REVOKED DRIVER'S LICENSE

Leticia Sanchez-Hernandez, 40, of the 300 block of Surrey Road in Wheeling, was arrested June 28 at 5:31 p.m. and charged with aggravated driving under the influence and driving while her license had been revoked. Police said she left the scene of a crash before being located near the intersection of Dundee Road and Skokie Highway. Police said she appeared to be under the influence and placed her under arrest. Cook County prosecutors approved a felony DUI charge. She was also cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, failure to give information, leaving the scene of an accident and driving without insurance, police said.

SUSPENDED LICENSE

Police saw a motorist commit a traffic violation and stopped is car. While checking the status of the driver's license, police learned it had been suspended. A 34-year-old Evanston man was arrested, processed and released after posting bond.

INCIDENTS

BURGLARY TO VEHICLE

A patron of the Marathon gas station on the 1900 block of Shermer Road reported shortly before 7 p.m. on June 22 that a large brown purse, containing cash, credit cards and other items, was stolen from their vehicle while they went to pay for gas.

BURGLARY TO VEHICLE

A resident in the 1200 block of Ridgewood Drive reported around 11:30 a.m. on June 23 that someone unlocked their 2016 Infiniti and removed about $10 in cash that had been in a small container.

TRESPASS TO VEHICLE

A resident of the first block of Timber Lane reported on June 23 that someone had entered an unlocked 2016 Crysler during the previous night. Police were told the glove box and center console had been rummaged but nothing appeared to have been taken.

RETAIL THEFT

A 25-year-old white man wearing black pants and a black baseball cap stole a pair of shoes from the DSW store in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard, police were told. The man came in to try on new shoes and left his old pair in the shoe box. The reported value of the new shoes was $79.

RETAIL THEFT

Two men entered the CVS in the 900 block of Willow Road at 8:18 p.m. on June 28 and took 12 bottles of Patron tequila, valued at $623.88, from the display shelf before leaving the store without paying, police were told Both men fled in a light colored Ford from the parking lot. One was seen wearing a White Sox jersey and the other a blue sweatshirt, police said. Both men were described as around 40 years old, one was described as black and one was described as white.

TRESPASS TO VEHICLE

Police noticed a vehicle with its dome light on in the 1900 block of Kiest Avenue around 4:36 a.m. on June 29. The passenger side door was left ajar and the glove box had been opened. Papers appeared to have been thrown around the vehicle. Police contacted the owner who told them nothing had been taken.

TRESPASS TO VEHICLE

A resident in the 1900 block of Redwood Lane reported that someone had entered their unlocked vehicle some time in the overnight hours of June 28 and scattered the contents of its center console and glove box around it.

BURGLARY TO VEHICLE

A resident in the 800 block of Laurel Road reported on the morning of June 29 that someone had entered an unlocked 2009 Nissan and stole electronic items from inside while it had been parked in the street overnight.

TRESPASS TO VEHICLE

A resident in the 800 block of Laurel Road reported on the morning of June 29 that someone entered an unlocked 2008 Hyundai in a driveway during the previous night, but nothing appeared to be missing at this time and no damage was done.

TRESPASS TO VEHICLE

A resident in the 800 block of Laurel Road reported on the morning of June 29 that someone had entered his unlocked Toyota and rummaged through the glove box during the previous night, but nothing was stolen.

BURGLARY TO VEHICLE

A resident in the 1200 block of Dell Road reported on the morning of June 29 that someone entered a 2010 Honda in a driveway and removed several items during the previous night, some of which were later found on another driveway near the resident's home.

RECOVERED STOLEN VEHICLE

Shortly after 5 a.m. on June 29, a resident in the 1000 block of Dell Road reported seeing a group of five or six people rummaging through vehicles on Dell Road. After calling police, the man went outside to check his vehicle and the group ran toward several other vehicles and fled before police arrived. The resident noticed a 2014 GMC pickup truck had been left unoccupied and running in the street. He took the keys out of its ignition and gave them to officers once they arrived. The resident told police the group was composed of five or six black men or boys. The truck was found to have been recently stolen from Morton Grove. Inside, police found items that had been stolen from vehicles in Glencoe.

While investigating several car burglaries on the 1000 block of Dell Road shortly after 5 a.m. on June 29, police noticed a 2010 Volkswagon with its door left open. Someone had apparently rummaged through the unlocked vehicle but nothing was stolen, its owner told police.

BURGLARY TO VEHICLE

A resident in the 1100 block of Cedar Lane reported no the morning of June 29 that sometime after midnight, someone had entered three unlocked vehicles in their driveway and rummaged through the glove boxes and center consoles. In one vehicle, a small amount of loose change was stolen, police were told.

TRESPASS TO VEHICLE

A resident of the 2000 block of Big Oak Lane reported on June 29 that sometime during the previous night someone had entered their 2011 BMW, but nothing was reported missing.

BURGLARY

A resident of the 1000 block of Shermer Road reported on June 29 that sometime between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. that day someone had broken open their front door and entered their home. Several items were reported stolen, including some silverware and possibly some jewelry, according to police.
