Northbrook Police Blotter: Aug. 11 - Aug. 17

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and a list of those arrested. Criminal charges are often dropped or reduced and represent merely accusations by the state. An arrest is not an indicator of guilt, and all persons named are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

INCIDENTS

THEFT

On the evening of Aug. 10, an employee in the 2300 block of Shermer Road reported that someone stole their wallet from inside a locker during their work day. The reported loss included various credit cards, ID’s, about $100 in cash and an iPhone 7.

On the morning of Aug. 12, police were told that someone had removed a realtor's sign out of the ground and put it in the front lawn of a property in the 2500 block of St. Stephens Green. Police contacted the agent for the property who advised they would be removing the sign. Police determined the property was secure.

COUNTERFEITING

An employee in the 1100 block of 1100 block Church Street told police that two different women or girls made low-value purchases with counterfeit $100 bills between Aug. 11 and Aug. 12. No description was available and the investigation is ongoing, police said.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

A resident in the 2400 block of Crabtree Lane reported on Aug. 12 that someone knocked their mailbox off of its post during the previous night.

On the afternoon of Aug. 13, a resident of the 2300 block of Illinois Road reported that someone had been throwing eggs at their home.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

Just after midnight on Aug. 14, a resident in the 2400 block of Oak Avenue reported hearing glass breaking in the street. When cops got to the scene they found a witness who said there had been a commotion outside. The witness saw an apparent teenage boy kick over a lawn chair in their yard and that a group of teens had been walking along both sides of the block. Cops said about six construction barricades were damaged along the 2300-2400 block of Oak. There was no estimate of damage or cost to repair available.

BURGLARY TO VEHICLE

On the morning of Aug. 14, a resident in the 2300 block of Catherine Street reported that someone stole $1,600 worth of landscaping equipment from their trailer, including two leaf blowers and two weed whackers.

THEFT

On the night of Aug. 12, a patron in the 200 block of Skokie Boulevard reported going into the dining room after putting a silver iPhone 6s down in the kitchen. The iPhone was missing when the person returned to the kitchen.


ARRESTS

WARRANT

Benjamin S. Holmbeck, 31, of the 2600 block of Quail Lane, was arrested on Aug. 10 at 10 p.m. in the 1000 block of Willow Road. A patrolling cop saw a car he was riding in commit a traffic violation and pull it over. The passenger gave police his name and they quickly learned he had an outstanding warrant from the Bloomingdale Police Department. He was also charged with resisting arrest but Northbrook police were not able to say why.

DUI

Leticia Favela, 46, of the 2S600 block of Angeline Court in Warrenville was arrested at 1:23 a.m. on Aug. 12 near the intersection of Dundee and Waukegan roads and charged with driving under the influence. Police said they witnessed her commit several traffic offenses, talked to her and believed her to be intoxicated. She was also cited for failure to signal and improper lane usage.

DUI

Amit Khanna, 38, of the 1700 block of Johnson Drive in Buffalo Grove, was arrested Aug. 12 at 4:16 a.m. and charged with driving under the influence. Police said they witnessed him commit several traffic offenses, pulled him over near the intersection of Dundee and Pfingsten roads and determined he was intoxicated. He was also cited for improper lane use, failure to signal and speeding.

WARRANT

Michael Gibrick, 37, of the 600 block of Dunsten Circle, was arrested on the evening of Aug. 13 after police were called to his residence and learned he had an active arrest warrant from California. Police said the warrant was issued for theft but did not know which jurisdiction had issued it.

SUSPENDED LICENSE

A 42-year-old Wheeling man was arrested Aug. 14 at 10:12 p.m. near the intersection of Dundee and Waukegen roads and charged with driving while license suspended. An officer was on routine patrol in the area and witnessed an unrestrained child in a vehicle. Cops pulled over the car and found that the driver's license had been suspended. He was also cited for driving and uninsured vehicle and failure to secure a child.

SUSPENDED LICENSE

A 37-year-old Lansing woman was arrested Aug. 14 at 10:25 p.m. near the intersection of Willow Road and Lexington Lane and charged with driving with a suspended license. Police said they pulled over her car when they saw her registration was expired and learned her license had been suspended.

REVOKED LICENSE

A 38-year-old North Chicago woman was arrested Aug. 15 and charged with driving with a revoked license after police on routine patrol pulled over a vehicle for a registration violation in the 600 block of Waukegan Road. After speaking to the driver, they learned that she had a revoked driver's license. She was also cited for driving an uninsured vehicle and only having one taillight.
