NORTHBROOK, IL — With more than 300 children attending annually, the Kids' Fishing Derby is one of the most popular events on the Northbrook Park District's calendar. This year will be no different with the fun scheduled for Saturday at picturesque Lake Shermerville, located in Wood Oaks Green Park, 1150 Sanders Road.

The free event attracts children ranging in age from little ones to teenagers, according to NPD. The lake will be stocked with largemouth bass and smallmouth bass, bluegill, catfish and more. Young fishing enthusiasts can compete for prizes for the largest fish, smallest fish and most fish caught. Children are encouraged to bring their own fishing rods. No registration is required.

"The Kids’ Fishing Derby is a great opportunity for children and their families to connect with nature and spend quality time with each other," said Mary Mucci, recreation supervisor, for NPD. "Fishing also teaches children patience and perseverance, which are valuable life skills."
