Large Amounts Of Gold Jewelry Stolen From Home: Northbrook PD Blotter

The homeowner told police someone had climbed onto their second story balcony and smashed the window to gain access inside.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

LEAVING THE SCENE OF AN ACCIDENT

Jose F. Blancas-Reyes, of Wheeling, is accused of failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report the accident to police, driving while license revoked, and was arrested at 2:27 p.m. Jan. 15, at Dundee and Pfingsten roads. Police responded to the area for a report of a three-car traffic crash. One of the parties involved told police the driver that caused the accident, later identified as Blancas-Reyes, had fled the scene. Police later found him driving westbound on Dundee Road. A court date of Feb. 26 was assigned.

RETAIL THEFT

A Calumet City resident is accused of retail theft following an incident at 3:55 p.m. Jan. 18, at a store in the 1400 block of Lake Cook Road. The loss prevention staff at the store said the accused stole a white Moncler t-shirt. When he attempted to run out of the store, staff followed him. The subject ran through the parking lot and dropped the stolen t-shirt. When the officers arrived they found the subject hiding in a yard in Highland Park. He was charged with retail theft. A court date of Feb. 2 was assigned.

INCIDENTS

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

A resident in the 1700 block of Tudor Lane reported at 12:39 p.m. Jan. 14, someone had climbed onto their second story balcony and smashed the window to gain access inside. The complainant said "large amounts" of gold jewelry were taken. They told police they didn’t know when the break-in occurred because they had been gone for about two weeks.

THEFT

A resident in the 1000 block of Shermer Road called police at 1:48 p.m. Jan. 16, to report they had ordered a cellphone online. When the delivery company dropped off the package, they noticed the package was tampered with. When they opened the box, they noticed the cellphone was missing.

IDENTITY THEFT

A Longaker Road resident reported at 3:01 p.m. Jan. 16, had opened an AT&T account utilizing his name without his knowledge or permission. The account is in debt for over $3,000.

CHECK FRAUD

The staff at a car dealership in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard reported on Jan. 18 that five days prior, someone bought a car using a cashier's check in the amount of $164,820. On the day of the report, the check had been found to be fraudulent and was never issued from the account that was listed.
