NORTHBROOK, IL — Comparing it to a South American regional pattern of regional burglaries, the Northbrook Police Department is investigating an incident Friday in the 3800 block of Medford Circle. According to police, someone shattered the rear back door of the residence, entered the unoccupied home and fled in an unknown direction.

Police said the crime fits the pattern because the offender was targeting a larger home adjacent to wooded areas and golf courses. These burglaries typically take place between 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. Police are encouraging residents to lock all exterior doors and limit any access to second story windows and doors. In addition, residents should report any suspicious behavior as part of the "See Something, Say Something" program.

Residents who plan to be away for an extended period of time, they are encouraged to utilize the Police Department's House Watch Program via the Village website.
