Prospect 8, Glenbrook North 2 Final
(6:15) Bottom 6th: Prospect answered the Spartans run from the top half of the inning and then some. Bergman blooped in a double to score Dazzo and then came around to score on a single from Molini. Senior Henry Erickson came in to pitch for Resnick. Molini advanced to third on a ball in the dirt and scored on a throwing error from catcher Jason Scholl.
GBN has had big innings in the playoffs before and they have to have one now to stay alive. Top of the order, Apfelbach, Synek and Bruce, is due up in the top of the seventh.
Prospect 8, Glenbrook North 2 End Sixth
(6:04) Top 6th: Spartan rally! Thomas and Jack Day got on via one-out base hits and advanced to second and third on a wild pitch. Then pinch hitter Doug Mazewski laced a ground ball that looked destined to be a hit, but a diving stop and throw to first by Knights' second baseman Matt Molini robbed Mazewski of a hit and kept a run off the board. Thomas still scored on the play, but that was all GBN could get across in the sixth.
Prospect 5, Glenbrook North 2 Middle Sixth
(5:51) Bottom 5th: Landwehr blooped in a single for his second RBI of the day to drive in Luke Bergman. Brian Bauer then roped a double to the left field wall to score another run.
Prospect 5, Glenbrook North 1 End Fifth
(5:40) Top 5th: The Spartans let a golden opportunity get away from them. Slawin and Ruchman led off the inning with back-to-back singles and GBN had the top of the order up, but Landwehr got out of the jam. Still 3-1 Prospect.
(5:31) Bottom 4th: Resnick stays hot and strikes out Shane Joyce to get GBN out of the inning. Ryan Slawin, Brad Ruchman and Charlie Apfelbach are due up for the Spartans in the fifth and will try to spark a comeback.
(5:26) Bottom 4th: Prospect finally got the bats going. Bonahoom, Landwehr and Bauer combined for three straight extra base hits to give Prospect the lead. Then Donner drove in Bauer to make it 3-1. Steve Dazzo added an infield single and that was it for Thomas. Pete Resnick, who threw a no-hitter in his last outing, in at pitcher for the Spartans.
Prospect 3, Glenbrook North 1 Bottom Fourth
(5:16) Top 4th: A 1-2-3 inning for Landwehr, who struck out two in the inning. Halfway home!
(5:11) Bottom 3rd: Thomas got the Knights to go down in order in the inning. Spartans holding onto a 1-0 lead.
(5:05) Top 3rd: The Spartans had the top of the order up in the inning, but were unable to score. Synek picked up his second hit of the day with a single to the right-center field gap.
(4:58) Bottom 2nd: Knights' catcher Kurt Donner earned a walk with one out, but the left-hander Thomas was able to pick him off first. That was it for the Knights in the inning.
(4:52) Top 2nd: Mark Johnson reached with one-out on a single, but that was it for the Spartans in the frame. Still 1-0 GBN.
(4:46) Bottom 1st: Prospect No. 3 hitter Peter Bonahoom drove a ball to center field for a two-out single, but Synek dove to catch a line drive off the bat of Jack Landwehr to end the inning. Great play by Synek!
