Mall Staff Recognize Repeat Shoplifter; DUI After Crash: Blotter

Northbrook Police Blotter: April 27 - May 3

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and those arrested on criminal charges, which merely represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Just because someone gets arrested does not mean they will be found guilty of anything by a court of law.

INCIDENTS

CREDIT CARD FRAUD
A staffer at a clinic in the 300 block of Wainwight Drive reported around 9:30 a.m. on April 27 that a client had called to report an unauthorized use of their credit card at the business.

CREDIT CARD FRAUD
A Windsor Lane resident reported that someone made unspecified unauthorized purchases between Dec. 22 and April 24.

FORGERY
A Redwood Lane resident reported on April 25 that someone had cashed a $300 personal check without permission.

BURGLARY
Sometime between 3:30 p.m. on April 27 and 11 a.m. on April 28, someone reportedly cut a lock on a fence and a storage trailer parked in the 1200 block of Woodview Lane and stole various construction tools.

ELECTRONIC HARASSMENT
An Applewood Lane resident came into the Northbrook Police Department on the morning of April 29 to report having received a text message they believed to be a scam.

IDENTITY THEFT
A Radcliffe Drive resident reported on the afternoon of April 29 that someone had added unauthorized phone lines to their cellular account.

THEFT
A patron at the Northbrook Court Finish Line store in the 1500 block of Lake Cook Road reported on April 30 that someone stole an unattended bag containing three new iPhones and other items as they were doing other shopping.

THEFT
A resident in the 3100 block of Toulon Drive reported at 4:24 p.m. on April 30 that someone had stolen $5,000 worth of jewelry.

IDENTITY THEFT
An Oak Avenue resident reported on the afternoon of April 30 that someone had made $4,600 in unauthorized purchases on three separate dates in April.

CREDIT CARD FRAUD
A Bellevue Place resident reported on the evening of April 30 that someone had made an unauthorized credit card charge of about $37, which was reversed once the bank was notified.

SHOPLIFTING
While reviewing security camera footage, an employee of an outdoor supply store in the 800 block of Willow Road reported discovering that shortly after 3:30 p.m. on May 1 someone stole multiple GoPro cameras from a locked case.

FORGERY
An employee at a business in the 1900 block of Raymond Drive reported on May 3 that two company checks worth about $1,900 had been forged and cashed.

FRAUD
A Raymond Drive resident reported on May 2 that they had gotten a letter from a debt collector seeking payment from a check written from their account to a business outside of Illinois. While speaking with the debt collector, the resident determined the check had been fraudulent.


ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Lemon Nelson, 45, of the 8700 block of Fairy Chasm Drive in Milwaukee, was arrested at 7:37 p.m. on April 28 at the Saks Off 5th at Village Square in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard and charged with felony retail theft. A store employee reported that he had previously been witnessed shoplifting from the store and had returned. Nelson was stopped and found to have stolen about $1,300 in various items from the store, and prosecutors approved a felony charge.

Jaclyn M. Jemc, 34, of the 2200 block of West Iowa Street in Chicago, was arrested at 8:55 p.m. on April 28 near the intersection of Dundee and Waukegan roads and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol concentration above 0.08 following an investigation into a traffic crash involving multiple cards. Jemc was also cited for not having insurance and failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
