Man Files Civil Suit Against Northbrook Store

Claim is that chair was made improperly, causing man to fall

The HomeGoods store in Northbrook is facing a civil suit in Cook County Circuit Court filed by a man who claims he collapsed and fell on his head after sitting in an incorrectly constructed chair he was testing out for comfort.

According to The Cook County Record, Jason Slater filed a premises liability suit against the store on December 11. From Slater’s January 29, 2013 visit to the HomeGoods store at 840 Willow Road, he claims “the store constructed the chair in a way in which the legs were affixed backwards so that any customer who sat in it would cause it to collapse,” the Record stated.

The suit alleges Slater “was caused to violently fall from the said chair upon the floor and while on the floor, the chair fell upon … his head and neck,” causing bruises, cuts and other injuries to limbs and internal organs.
