Maple School Students Donate Toys To 650 Families For Holidays

The student council organized months of fundraising for the school's annual holiday toy drive.

NORTHBROOK, IL — Maple School students organized a holiday toy drive to provide toys and games for donation to more than 650 families in need in Northfield Township. The student council spent months on fundraising for the annual drive, which has been a tradition at the Maple School for more than 25 years, according to Northbrook/Glenview School District 30.

Student council members and sponsors prepared the collection for transport Monday and loaded them into cars of representatives of Northfield Township youth services with the support of school administrators.

"The students and staff have truly exemplified great character," Carter said in a release. "Their caring and citizenship were glowing today."

Student Council board members – Assistant Social Chair Julia Bazianos Social Chair Olivia Thursby, Assistant Fund Chair Dylan Hartbarger, Fund Chair Rohan Mitra, Secretary Gwyneth Kinzler, Vice President Max Wadhwa and President Moses Chua – and co-sponsors Lynn Reimer and Iris Zhang organized the collection in the athletic hallway and prepared it for transit with help from Superintendent Brian Wegley, Principal Nate Carter and Assistant Principal Betty Holzkopf.

Student have been selling raffle tickets during lunch hour since early in the fall to raise money for the toy drive. Staff members donated items to be raffled off, including electronic devices, gift certificates and movie tickets.

The student council also sold popcorn on Friday and recently held its annual pancake breakfast fundraiser, according to the district.

"This was another truly inspiring Toy Drive by Maple's Student Council," Wegley said. "Thank you to Lynn Reimer, Iris Zhang, and our thoughtful students."
