Northbrook Junior High will bring Disney’s “High School Musical Jr.” to the stage March 11-14 in a double-cast production that involves 45 cast members, student directors and student choreographers.

Drama teacher David Downing said it was the right year to bring a big production to the NBJH because they have so many talented students for the large cast. In fact, this is the first time in several years that Downing, together with Music Director Anca Apetean, decided to create two casts for the 15 leads in the show.

“The students grew up with the music and already know the songs by heart,” Downing said. “They will perform this well.” It does require extra everything, including double costumes, double rehearsals, and an extra show.

“This is a very student-centered production,” said music director Anca Apetean. Students are writing the choreography and teaching it to their peers and student directors are overseeing the production.

The casts will alternate performances, with shows at 7 p.m. March 11, 12 and 13 and at 2 p.m. March 14. Tickets are $8 each and can be purchased in advance at the junior high school office or at the door.
