New Exhibit by Photographer Bill Sanders Opens in YMCA Gallery
The show includes portraits, landscape, and composite images in celebration of Black History Month.
Photographer Bill Sanders returns to the North Suburban YMCA’s Community Gallery in February with a new exhibit. The Y is pleased to showcase the Evanston-based photographer as part of their celebration of Black History Month. The work is for sale, with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the Y’s Visual Arts Program.
Sanders was part of the first Black History Month celebration exhibit in the Community Gallery in 2014. “I have an eclectic body of work portraiture and composites. Being a Black person has help shaped my work but has not totally defined me,” explained Sanders.
The photography on display consists of portraits, landscape and scenery, and composite images. The portraits are a collection of some of Sander’s favorites. His landscape and scenery shots consist of Chicago urban scenes, flowers, and insects. The composite photos are images created by combining several photos, some are photo realistic while others surreal in nature.

“My main claim to ‘fame’ is portrait photography. I love to create portraits in both candid and studio settings,” added Sanders. As part of the show, Sanders will be offering a personal studio or home photo session with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the Y.
The North Suburban YMCA’s Community Galleries support the local arts community by giving it a place to show and sell their works. For more information about the gallery, contact Cathie Winnie at cwinnie@nsymca.org.
