New Teen Theater Company in Northbrook
The Northbrook Theatre Teen Company is the latest project of the Northbrook Park District.

The Northbrook Park District will operate a new teen theater company this winter for high school student.
The Northbrook Theatre Teen Company (NTTC) will join the long-running, highly regarded Northbrook Theatre Children’s Company and the recently introduced Northbrook Theatre Jr. Company in staging plays for youth and family audiences. The teen company is a devised theatre program, which means that young performers will create new plays, based on the ideas of the ensemble.
“All students in the group will have the opportunity to perform roles that they helped create,” said Erin Sweet, Assistant Manager of Performing Arts with the Park District. “Some of the teens already may be familiar with performing, but we’re going to guide them in creating an original play. We intend to provide a positive and inclusive experience to empower students and give them a creative outlet.”

Registration for the teen theatre company is open and accepted at the Leisure Center, Northbrook Sports Center, and online at nbparks.org. Students will meet at the Leisure Center on Wednesday evenings for 11 weeks, beginning on January 13.
“Using theatre to build life skills, our staff will emphasize collaboration, critical thinking and creativity, as we encourage students to achieve their best,” Sweet added. “We also will promote positive relationships between the students. We have seen friendships and bonds develop within our children’s company and expect the same with the teen company.”
