No Dog Training Facility for Northfield

A proposal for a dog training facility to operate in Northfield by local business owners was squashed this week by the village board.

The board voted unanimously not to allow the zoning amendments required that would allow Your Dog’s Guru to open at 190-B Northfield Road under the ownership of Michael Jayko and Annie Cobb, according to the Winnetka Talk. A vocal crowd at a board meeting was split on the matter, with concerns raised regarding noise, potential boarding of dogs and pack walking.

Had the zoning been approved, Jayko said the business would primarily be an indoor dog training facility with no outdoor kennels. He expressed disappointment in the board’s 5-0 vote against, keeping hope the business will come to fruition somewhere in the region.

“We’re disappointed,” he said. “We passed up a building in Highland Park because of the spot on Northfield Road. We just have to find the right spot.”
