North Shore Towns Dominate Niche List of Best Suburbs

Northbrook made the Top 10, but three nearby villages were ranked higher in the annual list.

Niche.com released their 2015 Best Places to Live rankings which rank nearly every city, town and suburb in America this week. Taking a look at lists nationwide and by state, the website categorized the rankings into lists of best towns, suburbs and places for families.

It’s no surprise that when it came down to the list of Best Suburbs in Illinois, Chicago’s North Shore came out flexing.

In that list, Glencoe was selected as the best, with nearby Winnetka coming in at No. 3. While three other suburbs took up the other spots in the top five, 6-10 was a clean North Shore sweep. Bannockburn at No. 6, Northbrook at No. 7, Kenilworth No. 8, Highland Park at 9 and Deerfield at No. 10.

Lincolnshire, Riverwoods and Northfield were also listed in the Top 20, giving the North Shore half of the best 20 suburbs in the state, according to the rankings.

The new data-driven rankings are based on dozens of factors measuring livability, local schools, safety, jobs, community and housing.

Glencoe, for example, received an A+ grade in things to do, easy commute, education and community, while getting an ‘A’ in crime in safety, health and fitness and housing (A-). Jobs and outdoor activities were rated a ‘B’ in the village, while weather (C+) seems to be the only detractor in making it an all-around great suburb.
