Northbrook Art Studio To Celebrate Ribbon Cutting With International Dot Day

NORTHBROOK, IL — A Northbrook nonprofit art studio is marking its official opening with a celebration tied to an international event focused on creativity and self-expression.

I Just Am Studio will hold its ribbon cutting and International Dot Day celebration from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, at 1975 Shermer Road, near Shermer and Techny roads. The event is free and open to the community.

The celebration will include tours of the studio, hands-on art activities, light refreshments, raffles and information about upcoming classes, workshops, community programs and volunteer opportunities.

I Just Am Studio describes itself as an inclusive nonprofit community art space focused on creative expression, connection, vocational exploration and community building. Its programs include painting, printmaking, clay, screen printing, children’s art classes, community workshops and open studio time.

The ribbon cutting coincides with International Dot Day, which began in 2009 after Iowa teacher Terry Shay introduced his students to Peter H. Reynolds' book "The Dot."

The event grew from a classroom celebration into an international movement centered on creativity, bravery and self-expression. Organizers say millions of children and adults in more than 190 countries now participate in International Dot Day activities.

"International Dot Day reminds us that one small creative act can become the beginning of something meaningful," Janice Weinstein, founder and director of I Just Am Studio, said. "That spirit is at the heart of our studio — a place where people of all ages and abilities are encouraged to create, connect, belong, and make their mark."
