Northbrook Chief Praises Relationship Between Police, Residents in Open Letter

Read Chief Charles Wernick's message thanking citizens for the support they've given the department.

NORTHBROOK, IL — With tensions high across the country between law enforcement agencies and the citizens they protect, Northbrook's police chief recently expressed his thanks for the support his department has received from residents.

"During these difficult times across the county, it is reassuring to know that here in Northbrook, we have a strong dependable relationship with our citizens," Chief Charles Wernick wrote in a message that was posted Friday on the village's website.

Wernick isn't the first North Shore head cop to address the communities they serve in the aftermath of police-targeted shootings in Baton Rouge and Dallas. Last week, Highland Park Police Chief Paul Shafer said officers need to build public trust through their actions.

We appreciate every acknowledgement of support, from the many tasty treats brought to the station to share with on-duty staff to the residents tying blue ribbons on the trees in their neighborhoods and the kind words offered to our Officers. Please know that we truly appreciate every act of kindness.

Sincerely,
