NORTHBROOK, IL — David Downing, drama teacher at Northbrook Junior High School, will be honored in May with a Meritorious Service Award as part of the statewide Those Who Excel awards banquet.

Downing, who has taught at the school for the past 17 years, was nominated for the honor by fellow NBJH teacher Anca Apetean, who teaches music.

"I have not gone to work one day in District 28 because when you love what you do, it's not work," Downing said in a statement from Northbrook District 28.
