Northbrook Park District: Williamsburg Square Park Improvements Project

The Park District received a $600,000 Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

Northbrook Park District is excited to announce the start of the park renovation project at Williamsburg Square Park, 200 Lee Road. The Park District received a $600,000 Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) Grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) to partially fund this project and we are excited to bring new and improved amenities to this location!

New park amenities include:

  • Playground with structures for ages 2–5 and 5–12
  • Sport courts including two tennis courts, two pickleball courts and a full basketball court
  • 20′x20′ shelter with tables
  • New pavement on the existing walking path
  • Drinking fountain with bottle filler and dog bowl
  • Park benches
  • Fencing
  • Native plantings
  • While the exact start date of the project is dependent upon weather conditions, construction is expected to begin in early spring with completion by early autumn.

    During the renovation timeline, the park is a construction zone; areas of the park will be fenced off and unavailable to the public. The ball field and open space will remain available for recreational use.

    While the park is under construction, please visit one of these nearby Northbrook Park District locations to access recreational amenities:

  • Countryside Park, 2075 Walnut Circle — New playground (installed in 2023), half basketball court
  • Crestwood Park, 1824 Milton Avenue — Playground, tennis, pickleball, fitness equipment
  • Oaklane Park (park renovated in 2023) — 636 Berglund Place: Playground, tennis, pickleball

    On August 24, the Board of Park Commissioners approved a resolution to support application for an Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR). The Northbrook Park District was awarded a $600,000 grant for improvements to this park.

    Community Open Houses for Williamsburg Square Park, facilitated by Hitchcock Design Group, were held on Wednesday, September 7 from 6pm-7pm in the Prairie Room at Techny Prairie Activity Center located in Techny Prairie Park and Fields at 180 Anets Drive, Northbrook, on Thursday, September 8 from 6pm-7pm at Heritage Oaks Golf Club, 3535 Dundee Road, Northbrook, and on Tuesday, September 27 from 4:30pm-6:30pm at Joe Doud Administration Building, 545 Academy Drive, Northbrook.

    Community members were able to discuss the project with staff members and project consultants, view current design plans, review survey results from the spring and provide your feedback for this park.
