Northbrook Crime: Shoplifter Flees in Stolen Car, Burglars Leave Empty-Handed

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes incident reports and arrest records compiled by the Northbrook Police Department.
THEFT

Panera on the 700 block Skokie Hwy. Shortly afterwards, she began receiving alerts about fraudulent activity on her credit cards which had been contained in the wallet.
RETAIL THEFT

On Feb. 3 at 11:42 a.m., security at the Whole Foods on the 800 block of Willow Rd. reported seeing a 33-year-old Glenview man placing merchandise in his coat pockets. He was stopped after leaving the store without paying for the items, valued at less than $76. He was issued a citation and released.
BURGLARY TO VEHICLE
On Feb. 3 around 1:45 p.m. a victim reported that between 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 2 and 8 a.m. on Feb. 3 someone entered his Chevrolet van and stole his work tools on the 1600 block of Ferndale for a loss of $2500. Police said there were no visible signs of forced entry but the victim reported that he had secured the doors on the vehicle.
RETAIL THEFT
On Feb. 9 shortly after noon, security at the Neiman Marcus on the 1500 block of Lake Cook Road called to report the theft of a $255 dollar hat. The suspect, described as a black male in his mid-20's with short hair faded jeans and a gray parka with a fur-trimmed hood, fled the scene in a stolen 2014 Buick Regal, police said.
BURGLARY (?)
On Feb. 9 shortly before 1:00 p.m. a victim reported that two men knocked on her door claiming to be from the Village. They said they needed to check her water, with one man telling her he was there to check for a water leak. As one mad ran the faucets in the kitchen, the other man apparently went upstairs, opened several drawers and did not steal anything, the victim told police. Both were described as middle aged white men wearing dark colored sweat jackets, baseball caps and dark colored fabric gloves.
