Northbrook Public Library: An Evening To Remember With Award-Winning Author

We were thrilled to welcome Naomi Hirahara, the author of Clark and Division, our One Book, One Northbrook selection, to the library last week. If you missed it, you can watch the recording at https://bit.ly/nplnh until Nov. 1.

The conversation between Naomi and her moderator, Chicagoan Erik Matsunaga, went beyond the pages of her book to explore their shared heritage and the important role Chicago played in the lives of many Japanese American families. They also reflected on what it was like to grow up in the U.S. as a person of Japanese descent and how that has changed throughout their lives. Naomi also answered some thought-provoking questions from the audience and talked about how sharing our stories with others helps us build empathy.

We encourage you to continue learning about the themes of Clark and Division by visiting our 2nd floor exhibit, which features a collection of photographs and documents that explore the challenges, resilience, and cultural contributions of the Japanese American community in Chicago.
