Northbrook Public Library: Summer Reading Challenge Returns

Summer Reading is sponsored by the Friends of the Northbrook Public Library.

Our Summer Reading Challenge encourages you to try new things, boost your creativity, and explore whatever inspires you, whether it's reading, learning a language, crafting, sports, video games, music, science, or something else entirely. And the best place to start is the library!

How Summer Reading Works

Because the goal is to encourage a lifelong love of reading, we offer a Summer Reading Challenge for babies, youth, teens, and adults. And although reading is its own reward, we also have fun activities and prizes planned throughout the program.

  • Adults who sign up and log just four or more books this summer will receive a cool bucket hat (perfect for sunny days), and a coupon for a free book from the Friends' Bookshop. They will also be entered into weekly gift card drawings and our Grand Prize Drawing—a $200 Sunset Foods gift card.
  • Our Youth and Teen Summer Reading programs offer coupons and prizes, like a free book, as well as the chance to be entered into our Grand Prize Drawing.
  • Our Baby Summer Reading program encourages caregivers to engage in fun literacy activities with their little ones (like reading or singing together). After they complete the challenges, they will receive a special prize and a free book.

Visit the library starting Sunday, June 1 at 1:00pm to sign up and pick up a reading log, or participate online using the Beanstack website or app. Learn more about participating here.

Play our Summer Reading "Crack the Code Challenge" from June 1-8

To kick off our Summer Reading Challenge, we invite you to play our "Crack the Code" Challenge! Visit the library from June 1-8 to pick up a "Crack the Code" form and search for numbered cards hidden near our service desks. Then, use our code breaker to spell out a mystery phrase to be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a special prize!
