Northbrook Ranked No. 7 Richest Retirement Town In Nation: Study

For its "America's 50 Richest Retirement Towns" list, researchers analyzed data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

NORTHBROOK, IL — Anyone who lives in Northbrook can tell you it's a great place to live, but it's also a perfect spot for retirement if you can afford it. GOBankingRates, a personal finance company, recently named Northbrook No. 7 in its "America's 50 Richest Retirement Towns" list.

According to the company, its researchers analyzed the latest U.S. Census Bureau data to identify all locations in America (including cities and census-designated places) where adults 65+ make up 25 percent or more of the population. The list was limited to only include locations with a population of 15,000 or more.

To determine rankings, the researchers evaluated median incomes in each location. "Livability" scores were also added to give the study more context.

The study said Northbrook has a retirement population of 25.6 percent, or 8,862 of its 34,642 overall population. The median household income in Northbrook is $155,321. The livability score for Northbrook is 80.

Saratoga, California, is the richest retirement town in America. The median household income in Saratoga is $241,348.

In all, Illinois had four towns make the list, including Northbrook: Lake Forest (No. 2), Westchester (40) and Godfrey (50).
