Northbrook Rep Calls Off Attorney General Run

Rep. Elaine Nekritz said Sunday she will not seek the Democratic nomination to replace Lisa Madigan.

NORTHBROOK, IL – Northbrook's outgoing state representative announced Sunday she will not campaign for the Democratic nomination for Illinois Attorney General. Eliaine Nekritz, who has served in the General Assmebly for 15 years, notified local party leaders in June that she would not be seeking another term. But when news broke that Attorney General Lisa Madigan will not be running again next year, Nekritz had reportedly begun collecting signatures for her own possible statewide campaign.

Last Wednesday, she said she was giving "careful consideration" on whether to pursue to office. Then, on Friday, Nekritz announced she has decided it is "not the right time" for her family to serve as a constitutional officer and thanked supporters for their encouragement.
