Northbrook Shopping Elf Delivers Local Ideas and Inspiration for Holiday Season

Holiday shoppers in the northern suburbs of Chicago have a new helping hand for choosing the perfect gift, and they don’t have to look any farther than their own Facebook news feed. The “Northbrook Shopping Elf” social media campaign brings fresh gift ideas and special retail promotions to shoppers from Northbrook-based businesses, with daily updates to meet every need. The sprightly elf, named Nicki, made her debut on November 28, in time to help plan Black Friday and Small Business Saturday shopping expeditions.

Nicki the Shopping Elf is a joint project of the Northbrook Chamber of Commerce and the Village of Northbrook. The goal is to promote local shopping with fun, interactive social media connections to the community. Facebook users who like the Elf’s page will see local shopowners demonstrating their most popular gift options, and will get advance notice of flash sales, trunk sales, and other special promotions. The Facebook promotion complements other “shop local” programs spearheaded by the Chamber and the Village, including broadcast commercials that showcase Northbrook Court and other popular shopping venues.

“Northbrook enjoys a thriving, diverse small business community, and we want to help shoppers discover all the village has to offer,” notes Northbrook Chamber President Tensley Garris. “The Elf page is all about making it easy and fun for people to shop local. Our Northbrook businesses are excited to participate in the page, and we will have plenty of creative ideas to make the holidays special for everyone.”
