Northbrook Student Named 2023 National Merit Scholarship Winner

The Glenbrook North High School student was part of the last group of scholar winners to be announced this school year.

NORTHBROOK, IL — During a school year in which more than 7,000 National Merit Scholarship winners were selected across the United States, a Glenbrook North High School student was named a recipient Monday.

Anna J. Morrison, of Northbrook, was chosen as a National Merit Northeastern University Scholarship winner. Morrison has a probable career field of biochemical engineering, according to a news release from Evanston-based National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

Monday's announcement concludes a school year in which 7,140 students were named Merit Scholarship winners. According to NMSC, 153 colleges and universities sponsored the award-winners. Sponsor colleges include 81 private and 72 public institutions located in 42 states and the District of Columbia.

For the final selection, officials from each sponsor college select their scholarship winners from a group of finalists that plan to attend the respective institutions. The awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.
