Northbrook Student Teaching In Wisconsin During Fall Semester

University of Wisconsin-Whitewater

Jayne Latek, of Northbrook, is representing the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater as a student teacher during the fall 2026 semester.

Latek, who is studying elementary middle education in UW-Whitewater’s College of Education and Professional Studies, is serving as a student teacher through January 2027.

She is among 169 UW-Whitewater students placed in school districts around the region beginning in August. Student teaching is the final activity before teacher candidates earn their degree and license.

UW-Whitewater is partnering with 213 cooperating teachers across 148 schools in 99 districts during the semester.

Student teachers assist with lesson planning, instruction and assessment. This fall, 32 UW-Whitewater teacher candidates were also hired by school districts as student-teaching interns through the Wisconsin Improvement Program.

According to the university, UW-Whitewater licenses more teachers than any other institution in Wisconsin. Educating teachers was part of the university’s original mission when it was founded in 1868.
