Northbrook Temple Calls For Unity
Congregation Beth Shalom seeks to unify the community against hate Wednesday evening.

NORTHBROOK, IL — A Northbrook temple is holding "A Call For Unity" event Wednesday evening in response to the recent rally by hate groups and terror attack in Charlotesville, Virginia. Congregation Beth Shalom is hosting the event, which aims to show that the greater Northbrook community stands together in solidarity with Jewish community of Charlottesville, the people of Charlottesville and all who oppose hate. The event begins at 6:45 p.m. at 3433 Walters Ave.
"There is no moral equivalency for hate. It is unconscionable that in 2017 people, in America, are marching with hate-filled signs and swastikas. We will not tolerate it and we must not sit idly by," Rabbi Melman, Head Rabbi of Congregation Beth Shalom wrote in a letter to congregants.
The event is not intended to be political but instead to unify the community to condemn hatred. Members of the Northbrook Clergy Association, as well as local elected officials and other prominent local religious leaders will stand together in unity with the greater Northbrook community, Congregation Beth Shalom announced.
