Northbrook Theatre Youth Company Presents 'High School Musical Jr.'
The "modern classic" begins Oct. 22 at the Northbrook Theater.

NORTHBROOK, IL — Fans of the "High School Musical" movies and those who love musical theater will soon have a chance to check out a local production right up their alley. "High School Musical Jr." is set to be performed by the Northbrook Theatre Youth Company starting Oct. 22.
The show is a "modern classic" according to Melody DeRogatis, performing arts supervisor for the Northbrook Park District.
"High School Musical Jr." tells the story of an unlikely couple of high school students — the captain of the basketball team and an academically focused "freaky math girl" — who audition for the school musical and pave the way for others to shine.

"Millennials and Gen Z grew up watching these movies on the Disney Channel, and now their children continue the legacy watching the movies and TV show on Disney+," DeRogatis said. "Audiences can expect to hear all their favorite songs from the original movie, but re-told through the lens of Gen Alpha."
DeRogatis said the show is played by three sets of casts ages 8 to 14, and appeals to both young people and adults. The young actors "uphold the integrity and fun energy of the original story, but really make the roles their own," she added
