Northbrook Welcomes Back Traditional 4th of July Events
Most of the annual event was canceled the last two years due to the pandemic.

NORTHBROOK, IL — A summer tradition in Northbrook is set to return after a two-year hiatus. Due to the pandemic, local residents have had to miss out on some classic 4th of July events in the village.
On Thursday, the Village and Park District announced a number of events, including the popular Mile-Long Parade, will be back on July 4. Here is a breakdown of the schedule:
- 7:30 a.m. — Rotary Club of Northbrook’s 4th of July Breakfast at Village Green Park
- 7:30 a.m. — Park District’s Liberty Loop 5K Run/Walk at Techny Prairie Park & Fields
- 8:30 a.m. — Liberty Lap Fun Run
- 10 a.m. — Gather to cheer on Northbrook’s first responders at the Police vs. Fire Softball Game at Village Green Park
- 2:15 p.m. — Bike Parade will kick off at Cherry Lane and Western Avenue
- 2:30 p.m. — Parade applications and sponsorship information are available at northbrook4thofJuly.com. The deadline to apply is May 31.
- 7 p.m. — Gather at Meadowhill Park for DJ entertainment at the Ed Rudolph Velodrome.
- Dusk — Finish your 4th of July celebration with a boom at the spectacular fireworks display, which can be viewed from Meadowhill Park and Techny Prairie Park & Fields.
“The last two years have highlighted the importance of community, family, and making fun memories,” Northbrook Village President Kathryn Ciesla said. “What better way to enjoy time with those who are special to you than by coming together for the 4th of July Parade. The Village is thrilled to be holding this classic Northbrook event along with our other longstanding Independence Day traditions. This year we are not only honoring our great country, but also the strength of our community. I’m looking forward to celebrating with everyone.”

“The 4th of July Parade is the highlight of summer in Northbrook,” Northbrook Park District Board President Mary Ann Chambers said. “The Park District is excited to bring back and carry on this great Northbrook tradition, bringing neighbors, family and friends together to celebrate the spirit of Independence Day in our community. There are many activities and events throughout the weekend including the Liberty Loop Race and Liberty Lap Fun Run, activities in Village Green Park and, of course, the fireworks for neighbors, family and friends to enjoy.
