Over A Dozen Cars Targeted By Thieves In A Single Night: Northbrook Crime

Northbrook Police Blotter: May 5 - May 11

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department as a record of police activity and of incidents reported to police. Readers are reminded that an arrest is not an indication of guilt, and criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state. Everyone is presumed innocent until their guilt is established beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

LICENSE REVOKED

Sheree E. Holliday, 46, of the 1600 block of S. Central Park in Chicago, was arrested May 9 at 4:24 p.m. after police responded to the expressway ramp for a report of a motorist requesting help. When police showed up, the arrived the motorist entered her vehicle and started to leave. Police pulled over her vehicle to see what assistance she needed, and in checking the status of the defendant’s driver’s license officers learned that the defendant had a revoked license. She was placed under arrest, cited for driving without insurance, processed and released on bond.

DUI

Erika A. Villalon, 21, of the 1000 block of Sanders, was arrested May 9 at 12:38 a.m. after police pulled her over for committing a traffic violation. After speaking to the driver, police believed she was under the influence and placed her under arrest for DUI-Drugs. She was cited for improper lane usage, no insurance and possession of less than 10 grams of cannabis.

DUI

Thomas John Meister, 53, of the 4600 block of North Dover in Chicago, was arrested May 8 at 3:17 p.m. after police responded to a report of a traffic crash on eastbound Lake Cook Road near Lee Road. When they arrived on the scene, officers determined that Meister, one of the drivers involved in the crash, was under the influence. He was charged with felony aggravated DUI and cited for failure to reduce speed, no insurance, illegal transportation of alcohol.

SUSPENDED LICENSE

Jose Lara-Rodriguez, 29, of the 5100 block of 101st Street in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin was arrested May 4 at 3:34 p.m. after police pulled him over near the intersection of Waukegan Road and Shag Bark for a traffic violation. After checking his license, they learned it was suspended. He was cited for spilling a load on highway, driving without insurance and driving with a suspended license. He was placed under arrest, processed and released after posting bond.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO VEHICLE

At 10:19 p.m. on May 5, A caller on the 1300 block of Church Street reported that four vehicles belonging to her family each had a tire punctured by a sharp object.

RETAIL THEFT

At 2:30 p.m. on May 7, an employee at a perfume store on the 1500 block of Lake Cook Road reported that three black men had came into the store, took nine assorted brands of perfume from a shelf and then left the store without paying for the $964 in merchandise. The trio was last seen heading eastbound on Lake Cook Road.

STOLEN AUTO

At approximately 4:20 a.m. on May 8, Wilmette PD responded to a burglary of a motor vehicle and located a 2014 Toyota from which four offenders fled. Wilmette PD contacted the registered vehicle owner in Northbrook. The vehicle owner then discovered that his 2014 Toyota had been stolen from his driveway. The vehicle was unlocked and the starter fob was in the car. The vehicle was recovered and transported back to Northbrook PD for evidence processing.

MAY 8 TRESPASSES TO VEHICLES (BREAK-INS TO UNLOCKED CARS)

  • 5:20 a.m., 900 block Meadow Road
  • 5:28 a.m. 900 block Meadow Road
  • 5:39 a.m. 800 block Meadow Road
  • 5:40 a.m. 800 block Meadow Road
  • 5:50 a.m. 2000 block Redwood Lane
  • 5:58 a.m. 1900 block Redwood Lane
  • 9:29 a.m. 1900 block Thornwood Lane
  • 9:29 a.m. 1800 block Thornwood Lane

(Officers took reports at the above locations where entry was made by offenders to unlocked vehicles but nothing was stolen from the vehicles.)

CAR BURGLARY

Shortly after 5 a.m. on May 10, officers located a briefcase on the roadway while in the area of recent car burglaries. Police contacted the owner who explained he had put the briefcase in his 2014 Chevrolet. It appeared only the briefcase was removed from the vehicle.

CAR BURGLARY

At about 6 a.m. on May 8, a victim reported that offenders entered his unlocked 2014 Ford van on the 1900 block of Big Oak and removed an iPad. The vehicle had been parked in the driveway since 7 p.m. the night before.

CAR BURGLARY

Shortly after 8 a.m. on May 8, a victim reported that offenders entered her unlocked 2014 Volkswagon while parked on the 1900 block Redwood and removed a Presario laptop. The contents of the glove compartment and center console had been emptied onto the vehicle floor by the offenders.

CAR BURGLARY

On May 8, a victim reported that between 1:30am and 6am offenders entered her unlocked 2013 Buick, which was parked in a driveway on the 1900 block of Redwood, and searched the glove box. There was no immediate reported loss.

TRESPASS TO VEHICLE

Shortly after 6 p.m. on May 8, a victim reported that someone entered his unlocked 2011 Ford in the 1900 block of Milton Avenue and rummaged through the glove box without stealing anything.

CRIMINAL TRESPASS TO VEHICLE

At 7:10 p.m. on May 8 a victim reported that offenders had entered her unlocked 1998 Acura on the 1900 block of Redwood Lane and emptied the contents of the glove box onto the floor. Later she observed that the trunk lock had been punched out and damaged. Nothing appears to have been stolen.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO VEHICLE

On May 9, a victim on the 3000 block of Dundee Road reported that between 6:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. someone broke the rear passenger side window of her 2013 Chevrolet Malibu while it was parked in business parking lot. Nothing was removed from the vehicle’s interior.

ATTEMPT BURGLARY TO AUTO

On May 9, a victim reported that an offender punched out the lock on the driver’s door of her 2003 Subaru while it was parked at a day care business in the 1100 block of Techny Road between 12:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Despite breaking the lock, the offender was unsuccessful in gaining entry into the vehicle.
