Park District, Beth Shalom Team Up For Chanukah-Themed Event

Sing, Spin & Shine will include activities for the whole family, according to organizers.

NORTHBROOK, IL — With Chanukah nearly here, the Northbrook Park District and Congregation Beth Shalom have announced a family-friendly event to commemorate the holiday. "Sing, Spin and Shine" is planned for 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Dec. 10, at the Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Ave.

"We are looking forward to welcoming all attendees, whether they celebrate Chanukah every year, or want to learn about and enjoy this festival for the first time," said Erin Sweet, the park district's superintendent of arts and recreation. "Creating this new joyful, Chanukah-themed event through collaborating with Congregation Beth Shalom allows us the unique opportunity to broaden our holiday offerings with, and for, our community."

  • Songs and stories led by staff and members of Congregation Beth Shalom
  • Cookie decorating
  • Dreidel games
  • Crafts
  • Chanukah card-making
  • Make your own Chanukiyah (Menorah)

According to organizers, the event is suitable for children ages 3 and up. Children must be accompanied by adults.

Registration is per adult-child pair at $15 for residents and $19 for nonresidents. Additional person registration is available at $9 for residents and $15 for nonresidents. To register, visit here.

"Chanukah is all about adding more light to the world. That is exactly what we hope to do by building this partnership between our congregation and the broader community," Rabbi David Chapman said.
