Pedestrian Killed After Being Hit On I-294 In Northbrook: State Police

The late Thursday night incident shut down several lanes on the highway for nearly eight hours, according to Illinois State Police.

NORTHBROOK, IL — For the second time in less than a week, a pedestrian was struck and killed on Interstate 294 near the North Shore late Thursday night at Sanders Road. A 61-year-old Northbrook resident was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Illinois State Police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Police, who responded to the incident at around 11:26 p.m., said it shut down several lanes on the highway for nearly eight hours. The left lane remained open while the rest of the lanes were shut down for an investigation. All lanes were reopened by 7:25 a.m.

Calling the investigation in its "infancy," police said an offending vehicle did not remain on the scene. The identity of the deceased has not been released.

The incident comes less than a week after a 31-year-old Des Plaines woman, who was also walking on the highway at the time, was killed by a Fed-Ex tractor trailer truck on I-294 Saturday near Central Road in Glenview.
