Resident Pushed By Neighbor Over Internet Issues: Blotter

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

INCIDENTS

CUSTOMER DISPUTE
An employee at T-Mobile, 100 block of Skokie Boulevard, reported at 4:30 p.m. Nov. 18, a customer was upset with how long a transfer to a new phone was taking. An officer stood by until the transfer was completed.

THEFT

• A customer at Trader Joe's, 100 block of Skokie Boulevard, called police at 2:18 p.m. Nov. 19, to report a female bumped into them and stole their wallet. The complainant notified their credit card companies prior to reporting the incident to police. The cards had already been used at several businesses in the area.
• A customer at Sunset Foods, 1100 block of Church Street, reported at 5:45 p.m. Nov. 23, that sometime between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., her wallet was stolen while shopping. Complainant was not approached by anyone while she was shopping. The wallet contained $100 in money, her driver's license, social security card, and two credit cards. The complainant said that she was notified that one of her credit cards had been used.

RETAIL THEFT

An employee at Nordstrom Rack, 100 block of Skokie Boulevard, reported at 4:56 p.m. Nov. 20, that a female had been stopped for concealing a pair of shoes and a bottle of perfume, then exiting the store without paying for the items. Items were returned and the female in question was issued a local ordinance violation for retail theft.

SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES

• A resident of the 3800 block of Walters Avenue called police at 10:13 p.m. Nov. 20, to report someone set off their vehicle alarm and their neighbor’s motion sensor lights. An officer checked the vehicle and immediate area and observed no signs of criminal activity.
• A Penfold Place resident reported at 11:49 p.m. Nov. 20, they received a notification that someone was attempting to gain access to their Internet account. Several hours after the notification, they learned that their juvenile child’s social media accounts were accessed, and several offensive posts were made to their account that the juvenile did not make.

BATTERY

A resident in the 2800 block of Dundee Road called police at 2:58 p.m. Nov. 21, to report they were having a discussion with their neighbor about Internet service issues when the neighbor pushed the complainant. The complainant did not wish to sign complaints.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

Police responded to the 1800 block of Braeside Lane at 5:53 p.m. Nov. 21, regarding a burglar alarm at a residence. Upon arrival, officers found a broken window for the residence. Officers learned that entry by someone had been made, and the subjects had removed several items from inside the residence. Investigation is pending.

THREATS

• A person at the Northbrook Community Synagogue, 2500 block of Jasper, reported on Nov. 19 they received a threatening email from an unknown person.
• A Washington Drive resident called police at 2:04 p.m. Nov. 22, to report they received threatening messages regarding a past issue.

BURGLARY

A resident of the 4100 block of Picardy Drive reported at 10:54 a.m. Nov. 23, they came home to discover forced entry to the front door and a screen window on the garage. Officers performed an interior premise exam, also finding a rear patio door breaker bar sitting upright. Upstairs, a light was on in the master bedroom closet and a file cabinet was found open. A jewelry box on top of a dresser was found open, and two small pieces of jewelry were located on the floor. Homeowners reported that they were only gone for about 30 minutes and didn’t see any suspicious vehicles when they left.
