Safe Stolen From Retirement Home; Tools Taken From Store: Blotter
"Suspicious vehicle" call, traffic stop turns up people with active arrest warrants; home burglar interrupted: Northbrook Police Blotter

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.
INCIDENTS
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Between 1:30 and 2 p.m. Nov. 7, three unidentified men offered to fix damage to a car in the area of Lee and Shermer roads. The owner reported the damage had not been present at the time they left home and suspected the trio had damaged their car and them approached them in an effort to fix it as part of a scam.
PACKAGE THEFTS

- Someone stole a package containing a watch delivered to a business in the 300 block of Era Drive. The watch went missing after being delivered, police were told on the morning of Nov. 15.
- A package was stolen from outside the front door of a home in the 4200 block of Lindenwood Lane prior to 9 p.m. Nov. 18.
HOME BURGLARY ATTEMPT
A resident in the 1700 block of Fieldwood Drive reported around 6:30 p.m. Nov. 16 that they had heard a loud sound from upstairs while in their basement. The resident went upstairs to find their patio window had been broken and called 911. Officers did not find anyone in the area.
CAR BURGLARY
A resident in the 100 block of Arrowwood Drive reported around 9 a.m. Nov. 17 that someone had gotten into their car after it was left unlocked during the prior night. Nothing was reported stolen.

VANDALISM
- Someone drew graffiti on a water tower behind a building in the 1200 block of Cedar Lane between 3 p.m. Nov. 15 and 9:30 a.m. Nov. 18.
- Police found spray paint on all sides of a bus shelter in the 1300 block of Shermer Road around 11:30 a.m. Nov. 18.
STOLEN SAFE
A cashier's safe containing about $1,800 in cash was stolen from a retirement community in the 2600 block of Techny Road between 6:30 p.m. Nov. 15 and 3 p.m. Nov. 16.
COMMERCIAL BURGLARY
Someone broke into the Ace Hardware, 1941 Cherry Lane, prior to 2 a.m. Nov. 19, through a front window. Video from surveillance cameras showed six men or boys stealing chain saws and power cutters from the store before fleeing in a gray minivan. No further descriptions were available.
RETAIL THEFT
An unidentified man or boy stole three power impact wrenches worth about $600 from the Lowe's at 1000 Willow Road prior to 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 18, police were told.
ARRESTS
A 19-year-old Orland Park man was arrested around 1:15 a.m. Nov. 15 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop in the area of Willow and Landwehr roads. He was also issued a citation for improper lane usage.
A 47-year-old Glenview man was arrested around 10 p.m. Nov. 15 and charged with aggravated driving with a revoked license following a traffic stop at Willow Road and Patriot Boulevard. He was also issued citations for failure to signal and expired registration.
Christian X. Gutierrez, 24, of the 800 block of Manchester Avenue, Westchester, was arrested around 4 a.m. Nov. 17 in the 1400 block of Shermer Road on an active arrest warrant issued by Will County in connection with a charge of theft after officers were dispatched to a report of a suspicious car in a parking lot.
Ladislao Delreal Aleman, 46, of the first block of Juniper Court, Buffalo Grove, was arrested around 8:15 p.m. Nov. 18 on a warrant for failure to appear in DuPage County court in connection with a charge of deceptive practices. He was also charged with driving without a valid license and ticketed for improper lane usage following a traffic stop in the area of Dundee Road and Skokie Boulevard.
Avshalom Z. Chayim, 45, of the 5600 block of Court Leona, Hanover Park, was arrested on Oct. 22 at the Skokie courthouse and charged with burglary and identity theft in connection with unspecified offenses.
A 45-year-old Chicago man was arrested around 11 p.m. Nov. 19 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop in the area of Willow and Waukegan roads. He was also issued a citation for improper lane usage.
Juan J. Leom, 50, of the 2100 block of North Melvina Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 10 a.m. Nov. 21 and charged with driving under the influence of an unspecified substance following a traffic stop in the 800 block of Waukegan Road. He was also issued citations for improper lane usage and failure to signal.
