Scam Calls Involving Cryptocurrency On Rise In Northbrook: Police
Residents are asked to be vigilant and informed to avoid falling victim to the growing number of scams.
NORTHBROOK, IL — Northbrook police are warning residents to be aware of cryptocurrency/Bitcoin scams as a growing number are being reported locally. Residents have been receiving emails, phone calls, or text messages requesting them to send money via Bitcoin ATMs.
The scams have been reported in a variety of forms, including phishing, unsolicited offers, pressure tactics, and fake exchanges/digital wallets, according to police.
"We want to remind residents to stay informed about the latest scams and security practices in the cryptocurrency space to better protect yourself," the Northbrook Police Department said in a social media pots. "Staying vigilant and informed is key to avoiding scams in the ever-evolving world of cryptocurrency."
