School Bus Crash Injures 6 Students In Northbrook

NORTHBROOK, IL — A school bus with students from a Northbrook elementary school was involved in a traffic crash Thursday, injuring six students and an adult. Emergency personnel responded to the collision between the bus and a gray intersection of Dundee and Landwehr roads around 9:15 a.m., according to Northbrook Fire Chief Jose Torres.

Police said the sedan was turning left from northbound Landwehr Road to head west on Dundee Road when it was struck by the bus as it drove south.

Four children and one adult were transported to area hospitals by ambulance with minor to moderate injuries, while two students were taken to hospital by their parents, Torres said.

The driver of the sedan, an 83-year-old Northbrook woman, was one of those injured, according to authorities. She was issued a ticket for failing to yield while turning left, according to police.

The bus was carrying students from Shabonee Elementary, 1000 Pfingsten Rd., Torres said. There were 25 students on the bus, village officials said.

In a note to parents, Northbrook District 27 officials said there were no major student injuries after a vehicle hit the front end of a Shabonee Bus Route E bus. The school said students were taken to Glenbrook Hospital as a precautionary measure.

Counselors spoke with all students involved and were available throughout the day for any student needing support, according to the village. School Principal John Panozzo said he appreciated the quality of care provided to the schoolchildren by Northbrook's police and fire departments.
