Northbrook Schools Closing Friday Due To Extreme Cold Forecast

NORTHBROOK, IL — With dangerously cold weather set to freeze Chicagoland Friday, many Northbrook area schools are closing, with some opting for an e-learning day instead. The National Weather Service is predicting wind chills as low as 40 below zero, with an extreme cold warning being issued from 3 a.m. to noon on Friday for the area.

The weather service said there is a high confidence in a period of bitter cold with dangerous wind chills from Thursday night through Saturday morning. There is still some uncertainty on just how extreme the cold will be.

According to Emergency Closing Center and school district websites/social media pages, among the Northbrook schools/districts closing (e-learning noted) are the following:

• Northbrook School District 27 — closed Friday
• Northbrook/Glenview District 30 — closed Friday
• Northbrook School District 28 — closed Friday
• Glenbrook High School District 225 (Glenbrook North) — school closed, e-learning day Friday
• Gertrude Nielsen Child Care & Learning Center — closed Friday
