Search Turns Up Syringes; Same Man Arrested Twice In Day: Blotter

The Northbrook Police Blotter for April 20 to April 26 includes a pair of DUI charges after traffic crashes and felony drug arrests.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and those arrested on criminal charges, which merely represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Just because someone gets arrested does not mean they will be found guilty of anything by a court of law.

INCIDENTS

CREDIT CARD FRAUD
An Oak Knoll resident reported on the afternoon of April 20 that they had discovered several unauthorized purchases had been made using their credit card.

IDENTITY THEFT
A Heritage Drive resident reported at 4:33 p.m. on April 20 that someone had opened an unauthorized bank card using their personal information.

BURGLARY
Someone took "numerous tools" from a construction trailer in the 800 block of Timbers Edge Lane, which was found unlocked on the morning of April 23.

THEFT
A resident of the 2900 block of Norway Pine lane reported on the afternoon of April 23 that a two-piece ring set had been stolen from their home.

THEFT
A resident in the 600 block of Voltz Road reported at 8:48 a.m. on April 24 that someone had stolen their mailbox.

BURGLARY
An employee of a salon in the 800 block of Willow Road reported at 9 p.m. on April 24 that someone had stolen a cash drawer and three makeup bags from the office area.

IDENTITY THEFT
A Wessling Drive resident reported on the evening of April 25 that someone had opened an unauthorized account in their name.

SHOPLIFTING
Staff at a Northbrook Court clothing store reported a retail theft at 2:11 p.m. on April 26. Police said a person was seen walking around the store wearing a backback, which was covered by a jacket when they were seen leaving the store. It was believed to have contained about $600 in various items.


ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Stuart Hadary, 54, of the 8600 block of North National Avenue in Niles, was arrested shortly after 6 p.m. on April 19 at a grocery store in the 700 block of Skokie Boulevard and charged with retail theft. He was reportedly stopped while taking a cart full of nearly $300 worth of merchandise out of the store without paying. Police said he was also arrested at 9 p.m. at the intersection of Waukegan Road and Shag Bark Lane and charged with driving while his license was suspended after an officer who already knew his license was suspended pulled him over.

Sandra Brown, 63, of the 800 block of East Old Willow Road in Prospect Heights, was arrested on April 20 at the Northbrook police station and charged with telephone harassment. An employee at a business in the 300 block of Pfingsten Road reported that their company had been getting anonymous harassing phone calls and suspected Brown because of "past encounters." She was interviewed by police and charged.

Ari Greenspan, 24, of the 600 block of Appletree Lane in Glenview, was arrested at 6:15 p.m. and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following an investigation into a two-car crash at the intersection of Dundee and Waukegan roads. The officer spoke to both drivers and determined Greenspan was impaired. He was also cited for driving without insurance and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Diane Gal, 35, of the 1000 block of Kenilworth Drive in Wheeling, was arrested at 10:38 p.m. on April 22 near the intersection of Sanders Road and Bordeaux Drive and charged with possession of a controlled substance. She was the passenger in a vehicle that police pulled over for a traffic violation. While speaking with the driver, police noticed she put something under the seat. Police were given permission to search the car and found several syringes with fluid in them, along with tinfoil containing a powdery substance, both of which tested positive for illegal drugs.

A 20-year-old Chicago man was arrested at 6:20 a.m. on April 23 and charged with driving while his license was suspended after he was pulled over for speeding. He was also cited for not having proof of insurance.

A 19-year-old Chicago man was arrested at 9:36 p.m. on April 23 and charged with driving with a revoked license after he was pulled over for speeding near the intersection of Dundee Road and Juniper Lane.

Jeffrey W. March, 52, of the 200 block of Prairie Avenue in Highwood, was arrested at 11:36 p.m. on April 23 near the intersection of Dundee Road and Skokie Boulevard and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with a suspended license after he was pulled over for not wearing his seatbelt. After finding his license was suspended, police searched the car and found unspecified drugs and paraphernalia.

A 27-year-old Highland Park man was arrested at 12:36 a.m. on April 24 near the intersection of Willow Road and Three Lakes Drive and charged with driving with a suspended license after he was pulled over for speeding.

Chadwick L. Peyton, 37, of the 300 block of Greendale Drive in Valparaiso, was arrested at 10:51 a.m. on April 24 at the Northbrook Police Department on a warrant from Porter County, Indiana. Police learned of the warrant while conducting a traffic crash investigation.

Janina Kasprzyk, 61, of the 8800 block of Golf Road in Des Plaines, was arrested at 5:20 p.m. on April 24 and charged with driving under the influence following an investigation into a traffic crash at Founders Drive and Waukegan Road. She was also cited for illegal transportation of alcohol and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

A 53-year-old Chicago man was arrested shortly after 10 p.m. on April 25 and charged with driving with a suspended license in the 1500 block of Skokie Boulevard after he was pulled over for a traffic offense. He was also ticketed for improper lane usage.
