Spartan Roundup 12/5: Boys Basketball Remains Undefeated
Glenbrook North girls basketball started conference play with a win and girls gymnastics opened the season by topping last season's best score.

BOYS BASKETBALL - Mark Johnson scored 13 points, all in the fourth quarter and overtime, to lead the Spartans to a 46-40 win at Waukegan. Junior guard Kurt Karis had 15 points and Andrew McAuliffe added 12 in the (5-0) win. Up next: Tuesday at Niles North and Friday at Deerfield.
GIRLS BASKETBALL - and the Spartans routed Waukegan 72-45 on Tuesday. Guards Rachel Dress (18 points) and Rachel Blitt (16 points) led the way offensively. GBN made eight three pointers in the win after making a combined six in the five-game Mundelein Turkey Tournament. Two days later they beat Maine East 58-55 on the road to start Central Suburban League North play with a win. On Saturday the Spartans (7-2, 1-0) dropped a 56-46 decision to Elk Grove. Up next: Tuesday vs. Niles North and Thursday vs. Deerfield.
BOYS HOCKEY - North improved to 12-0-1 in the Metro North with a 2-1 win over Deerfield Wednesday and faced out of state competition in a Jamestown, N.Y., tournament over the weekend. Up next: Wednesday vs. Loyola Maroon, Saturday at Stevenson and Sunday vs. St. Rita.

GIRLS GYMNASTICS - The Spartans opened the season with a 127.80-124.90 loss at Niles West on Thursday. North's score is higher than last season's high of 124.55 and is a good sign of things to come for this season. Freshman Carli Betman led the way with a 33.45 all-around score. Up next: Thursday at Highland Park and Saturday at GBN Spartan Classic.
