Spartan Roundup 9/19: Girls Cross-Country Takes Second at Warren
Glenbrook North football and boys soccer are slumping this week, but girls volleyball and cross country continue strong seasons.

FOOTBALL - wasn't kind to the Spartans. GBN recovered an onside kick to start the game and Grant Rushing scored on a two-yard run to take a 7-0 lead, but Evanston dominated the rest of the game to win 35-7. Wildkits running back Ray Behr proved difficult to stop and had three touchdowns. At 1-3, the Spartans will likely have to win out to make the playoffs. Central Suburban League North play starts Friday at Deerfield.
BOYS SOCCER - CSL North play began last week and GBN is having trouble finding the net. In three conference games the Spartans were unable to score, drawing Niles North 0-0, and . The Spartan defense of Zayne Willis, Ryan Bunney, Jared Weisburg and Brian O'Keefe played well to allow just three goals in three games, but GBN has been unable to finish the opportunities they've created in front of goal. North (3-4-2, 0-2-1) will try to turn it around Tuesday when they host Deerfield. On the weekend they will host the GBN Invite.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL - This Spartan squad got off to a good start in conference play. The girls picked up wins over Niles North (25-17, 27-25) and Maine West (25-16, 25-7) to start CSL North play with a 2-0 record. GBN, now on a seven-match winning streak, will play Highland Park, Loyola and Deerfield this week.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY - Fremd just edged out the Spartans for the win at the Warren Invitational. The Vikings finished with 69 points while the Spartans totaled 70 to take second in the 21-team race. Junior Val Bobart took fourth place individually, closely followed by sophomore Ellery Marrinan, who earned fifth. Sophomore Allie Herriott and junior Katherine Weber also placed in the top 20. The girls will take on Deerfield, Maine East and Niles North in a quad on Tuesday and will compete in the Palatine Invite on Saturday.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY - On Saturday the Spartans took 12th in the 22-team Warren Invitational. Junior Danny Cheung was the top GBN runner, taking 43rd by finishing his three mile run in 16:30.70. The runners will host the same quad as the girls before racing in the Leyden Invite on Saturday.

GIRLS SWIMMING - The Spartans took third as hosts in the Sprint Classic on Saturday. Molly Orbon took first in the 25-meter fly and the 100 individual medley. GBN also picked up wins in the 200 free relay and the 100 medley relay.
