Strangling Allegation, Officer Battery Charge: Northbrook Police Blotter

NORTHBROOK, IL — An unlawful restraint case involving an alleged strangling, a DUI arrest and several theft and fraud reports are among the latest incidents reported by the Northbrook Police Department.

The following information comes from Northbrook Police Department reports. An arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt.

Battery

David S. Ash, of Northbrook, was charged with battery after police said he struck a victim during a religious ceremony Aug. 9. The victim reported minor injuries. Ash was given a Sept. 10 court date.

No Valid Driver's License

Daniel Perez Ramirez, of Chicago, was charged after police responded at 6:58 a.m. Sept. 4, to a non-injury crash in the 2100 block of Walters Avenue. Police said Ramirez did not have a valid driver's license. He was charged with no valid driver's license and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle. His court date is Sept. 23.

Unlawful Restraint

Stephen M. Richardson, of Northbrook, was arrested at 10:10 a.m. Sept. 5, in the 1500 block of Shermer Road after police said he got into an argument with a woman, pinned her down and strangled her.

The woman was able to get away and suffered minor injuries, according to police. Officers investigated and took Richardson into custody.

While in custody, Richardson allegedly struck a Northbrook police officer, who also suffered minor injuries.

Richardson was charged with unlawful restraint and aggravated battery. His court date was Sept. 8.

DUI

Dawn M. Sherwood, of Northbrook, was charged with DUI after police responded at 8:02 p.m. Sept. 5, to a non-injury accident in a parking garage in the 1000 block of Skokie Boulevard.

Police said Sherwood admitted drinking alcohol and taking prescription medication before the crash and failed field sobriety tests. Her court date is Oct. 6.

Theft

200 block of Arrowwood Drive: A resident reported Sept. 6 that a diamond necklace was stolen from a bedroom inside the home. Police said there was no forced entry. The resident estimated the necklace was worth a few thousand dollars.

Misdemeanor Speeding

Patricio N. Huaman Salazar, of Des Plaines, was charged at 11:25 p.m. Sept. 6, after an officer said a 2023 Ford Explorer was traveling 71 mph in a 40 mph zone in the 2300 block of Willow Road.

Huaman Salazar was charged with misdemeanor speeding and given an Oct. 9 court date.

Phone Scam

1000 block of Skokie Boulevard: A person reported Sept. 9 receiving an alert after being locked out of a phone that claimed there was a $269.90 Apple Pay charge.

The person called a number included in the alert and spoke with a woman who asked for financial information, police said. The person became suspicious, ended the call and later contacted Apple directly.

Identity Theft

3500 block of Prestwick Lane: A resident reported Sept. 10 receiving a $980.37 AT&T bill for service that had never been opened by the resident. Police said the account involved seven phones opened using the victim's personal information.

Credit Card Fraud

1300 block of Shermer Road: A person reported Sept. 10 that an unknown person used a credit card number to make $1,500 in fraudulent purchases from a Northbrook business.

Police said employees at the business reported other fraudulent transactions involving additional victims.
